In August 2015 Portsoy was used as the main film location for the remake of the 1949 “Whisky Galore” film. Portsoy, which became the island of “Todday” for the filming, had a great energy during these eight weeks for the almost eight weeks of filming and many locals were cast as extras. On general release in May 2017 after the Edinburgh Film Festival’s premiere the previous year, the film features stars Gregor Fisher, Eddie Izzard, Sean Biggerstaff and Naomi Battrick, many of whom were regular customers to Portsoy Ice Cream.
We were invited to serve Whisky Galore themed ice creams for the invitees at the Visit Scotland screening at Meldrum House Hotel. We served Whisky, Cranachan and Vanilla ice creams as well as Whisky sorbet, homemade using local AnCnoc 15 year old whisky.
